Reading reddit talkin' about my current game (ESO) and I sincerely love how the jargon of MMOs derives from the implementations of early MUDs. They're talking about the "proc" from a set bonus-- a triggered procedure.

"Mob"-- another great word."Creeps" is from Starcraft, I want to say, but could be entirely wrong."Tanking" is wonderfully metaphorical.

@ceejbot Creeps is a MOBA-ism (the little enemies that spawn in each lane and march toward the opposing side). Whereas "The Creep" is the sludge the Zerg spread under and around their buildings (Starcraft).I'm always amused when the MUD-derived jargon is (mis-)identified as being from games that came 10s of years later.C64Trivia: The VIC-II graphics chip had MOBs (Mobile Object Blocks), these days more commonly Sprites.
