yes, i did just publicly say that in my opinion, giving up the ability to innovate on trust & safety for the sake of mastodon compatibility, is not worth it.

but, pleroma is a multi-protocol software implementation (and designed to be from day 1), so we can have our cake and eat it too. at least, for now.

@kaniini Came across an interesting article on a mathematical approach to anonymity and the manga "Death Note". Makes me think that ephemeral keying is necessary but insufficient.

@jhulten as i have stated numerous times, Blind Key Rotation is meant to be a mitigation, and it is definitely not a complete fix.but the goal isn't to provide anonymity, as much as it is to disconnect the present timeline from the past timeline.if you consider a timeline as a graph of linked nodes, representing a user's posts, and then the user deletes a post, the purpose of BKR is to disconnect that graph from any future posts made by a user.this may mean that in fact, what the user does is not delete the *incriminating* post, but instead another post to separate the timelines. at the end, what matters is that the signature check fails in a plausibly deniable way.

@kaniini I would agree. Data security shouldn't be compromised to cater to a minority. It would be a case of cutting of their nose, just to spite their face.
