I honestly do not understand pkgsrc. Isn't it the same as FreeBSD's ports, but OS agnostic?

@FarhanYusufzai well compared with FreeBSD ports, pkgsrc is definitely simpler (and, under certain aspects, also more limited). This simplicity is one of the key points behind its extreme portability. pkgsrc goal is allowing compilation and cross-compilation between as many ISAs and *nix OSs as possible through a cospicous number of compilers
