I got the kindle that I ordered a few days ago, it seems pretty nice. at first it demanded that I make an amazon account but after rebooting it once it let me use it without any extra hassle. also it looks like it doesn't actually need wifi like it said at first.I've already put a couple of books on it and I can read them so it was worth my money.

@dd86k @sampo kindle supports pdfs, mobi, and azw3 files natively. iirc you can also read plaintext documents too and uhhhhh this is a stretch but probably ms office .doc/docx files too?t. kindle paperwhite user

@sampo I run my Kindle in perpetual airplane mode. You can push books in mobi format on there via USB. should work great!

@dd86k I've tried pdf and mobi so far, but I saw a big list of supported formats somewhere so there's more of them too. it would be pretty awesome if it knew how to handle djvu. but nonetheless I can just use calibre to convert them, if it's a problem.

@dd86k @sampo depending on the screensize of your kindle and the formatting on your pdf files, pdfs may look like they have text for ants. if your kindle is an e-ink one (basically any that aren't the kindle fire), it'll be in greyscale, but it looks Nice (Subjective). i personally love my kindle paperwhite despite pdfs with formatting for ants

@sampo when my sister got one, its kindle was already connected with its amazon account. I guess it's not the case in Finland

@marsxyz that sounds a bit scary. mine just asked me to log in, and there was no skip button. luckily rebooting at that point brought me to the home screen and it seems that everything that I care about works without logging in
