       @unixtippse @phessler Yeah, I wasn't sure which shells support it, so I was playing it safe by being specific. It's a feature I only recently (last year-ish) discovered, so I'm sharing it in the hopes of teaching others. Second-most-useful shell thing I learned last year, next to Alt-.

       @rixx @unixtippse it is indeed very neat, but I tend to use it rarely because I normally don't use similar directory structures.

       @phessler @unixtippse Alt-. repeats the last argument of the last command (and then cycles to the last argument of the second-to-last command etc.Super-useful for creating a directory, then changing its access rights, editing a file, then git-adding it etc. Once I got used to it, I never stopped using it.

       @rixx @phessler @unixtippse alt-. is a WM specific terminal emulator function, not a functionality of a shell as far as I understand that.!$ on the other hand should work in most shells.Example:mkdir foochmod 700 !$On macOS typing alt-. inserts a … character (ellipsis) as a Mac user would expect because the alt-modifier is used for alternative characters everywhere.We use ctrl for shell bindings and command (⌘) to interact with the application/window manager.
