Does anyone have any experience with routers that have a sim slot? I'm thinking about if I will be able to keep my Nextcloud server online during my upcoming move.

It would also be nice to get a router with a sim slot for failover to increase my selfhosted service reliability.

@kelbot You're using dynamic DNS then right? And apparently a new Router with 5G capability came out at CES, not that that'll be useful any time soon

@Matter Yes. The Turris Omnia seems like it would be perfect. It is expensive though.https://omnia.turris.cz/en/

@kelbot That would be a nice feature. I suppose you could hook up a permanent cell modem.

@DistroJunkie Yeah, a ting sim card that only charges you for the data you use should be a good inexpensive way to have a backup connection in case you need it. That would be a very good thing to have if you were hosting things that some family and friends were relying on.

@kelbot the Turris Omnia is very nice, a maybe less expensive but more DIY approach could be one of these:https://www.pcengines.ch/apu3c4.htmWith maybe https://opnsense.org installed.

@kelbot You can host Nextcloud on that as well then š. It's also my dream router, no way to justify it though.

@MatterI could maybe justify it if I started being responsible for family and friends' files and other services that needed to be reliable. It could also make sense in that it should last you a lot longer than cheaper consumer routers due to its open nature and great expandability.

@kevI saw some of those GL inet travel routers that support that. How do I know what devices will work?

@kelbot usually the router documentation will tell you. However, Iām yet to plug one in to a routers usb and not have it work.
