       conspiracy theory: the recommended construction for activitypub and the entirety of SOLID are insecure and privacy/deniability-violating because that's how the intelligence agencies of the world want it.before you discard this, keep in mind the whole linked data platform both are built from is mostly built by companies like Oracle and IBM.

       @kaniini I mean, its not like Facebook uses 3d party data mongers like Oracle Data Cloud or Acxiom in cooperation with giant credit card processing firms that consort with banks and governments bent on tracking their citizens for reasons.

       @ultimape what does facebook being evil have to do with anything?*my* point is that the same companies which built the Linked Data Platform (which both AP (which can be defanged -- defanging AP is the entire point of LitePub) and SOLID (jumped the shark tbh) derive from) are the same companies that built the hellscape enabled by facebook.so it should be no surprise that the W3C pushes for constructions that are harmful.

Most of the spooky 'shadow profiles' that researchers stumble into are rooted in those systems.I share a similar conspiracy theory given that all of that linked data stuff seems to parallel massive data collection activities by a number of firms.        @ultimape combining Linked Data and the Social Web is a huge boon for intelligence.  it is no mistake that VCs pushed for AS2 to become the standardized format across the proprietary social networks.

       @ultimape yep, exactly.but ActivityPub can be mostly defanged.  we did it in Pleroma, and we're still talking to the fediverse.
