There's one thing I don't get about immigration issues in the United States...Your immigrants are mostly harmless Latin Americans. They're not going to fuck up the country. You think you've got problems? In Europe, we have Muslims. Lots of Muslims.I'm not actually against immigration. So long as they share our values, are educated and civilised, try their best to fit in, don't bunch together in ghettos and aren't scary, they're welcome to stay. Muslims satisfy basically zero criteria on that list...

These people do not see themselves as Americans, and their 4 or 5 kids do not see themselves as Americans. Instead they see America as a nation to take vengeance on, and they vote and act accordingly.Demographics are destiny.

@TedTV @thor This, but also IQ realism.Because this argument implies that if they DID see themselves as americans, America wouldn't have gotten turned into mega-honduras, which is just not true. Only Europeans can make European style countries.

@folk @thor True. It's more than IQ even, there are harder-to-quantify qualities that also correlate to race. Singapore has a very high IQ, but they aren't America and they could not create America.

@TedTV @folk While there is indeed data showing a correlation between race and IQ, I'm not convinced that the correlation is purely genetic. It definitely *seems* like white people are smarter, but that's not evidence. Culture seems to have a fair bit of influence. The ancient black Egyptians who built the pyramids in Egypt 4500 years ago weren't exactly stupid. The ancient Nubians were pretty sophisticated too, and were esteemed by the ancient Greeks. I mean, if you continue the racial argument, you could argue that some black populations had better genes than others, but to me, it seems more likely that culture, geography and climate colluded to create ideal conditions for civilisations to crop up in certain places. I'd say the Japanese and the Chinese aren't half bad either, even though it took them centuries to finally figure technology out; with China figuring it out about 50 years later than Japan. One thing I do believe in is that the harsher climate of Northern Europe did us a favour. The first winter must've been tough. It likely killed everyone who hadn't planned ahead and secured food and shelter through the summer, i.e. the smart hard-working people.

@thor @folk There are intertwined feedback loops. Genes lead to culture that leads to a preference for certain genes. At this point those characteristics are expressed in genes to the point that they can be seen even when groups are removed from their natural habitats. The genes effectively transmit portions of the culture.>betterThe question is, better for *what*. What's necessary to survive to reproduce in Gambia or Sudan is not necessarily what makes a citizen of a Western nation.
