"Hacking" on TV in 2018, LOL.How do they still believe they are in the early 1990s, when the average viewer didn't know enough to laugh at their nonsense, as we do now?

@b9AcEWhat bewilders me is that both shows and films have /proven/ they can do as close to real hacking as possible (perhaps with a few embelishments) and make it exciting Black Hat is the film and Mr Robot is the show, like, why are so many other shows not up to that level?

@b9AcE to be fair the only reason i know this isnt how hacking works is because people have been saying it isnt on the internet. i'm not exactly a computer person though so maybe that's just me lol

@carlygayjepsen Well, a first rather huge hint may be that the "commands" are being entered waaay faster than any human can type. ;-)Usually, it would actually take the form of entering a command at a prompt, getting a result from that command, then a new prompt where some output of the previous command is used as input for a next command, then a new prompt and so on... not just a streaming whir of (actually pretty much garbage) text. :-D

@UnclearFuture I would think it ought to be cheaper too, to not go through the whole design process of making stuff that "looks" like hacking, when they could just... I don't know... "tcpdump" could look "advanced hacking" enough but be a real step in the real world.

@b9AcEWell, a lot of hollywood hacking I have come across is this, I've seen people issue a command to list out the entire directory tree of a system before (starting from /).Which, is /better/ as at least it relies on real commands but a lot more can be done.
