       @bryan some of those are almost as bad as proprietary software. like, I know redhat pumps a lot of money into linux things but they still suck ass

       @bryan the product for those companies isn't the code, but the service. Having open code is a security benefit and offloads your own development costs when others contribute in that scenario.When the code itself is the product, then that's not the case. That's why server Linux is a huge industry and desktop Linux is a marginalized. Because companies can't actually exploit free software for profit in the same way.We should publicly invest in FOSS development to counteract that.

       @bryan though canonical gets really much criticism it's still a good company. creating fool-proof distros like ubuntu is just the beginning of the linux-era.

       @marmite well, the biggest thing that I dislike about them is that they try to lock people in to using their software and services so that they can keep milking money out of them

       @sampo @marmite apple have turned to raping people for as much money as possable recently. Also mac os x and IOS are non free software. However I am a fan of apples encryption policy of not being pushed over by goverments.
