@igeljaeger The fun starts when there isn't even a PPA and you have to manually install dependencies.

@hagi or when some software doesnt work anymore without the most recent version of "some programming language" so you gotta fucking build it yourself from github installation manuals like, by the fucking gods kill me now. I tried switching to sid at some point but that just FUCKED everything. Was the final nail in the coffin for me. I remember wanting to use the most recent version of firefox but had to use an appimage for that lmao (snaps werent a thing yet)

@igeljaeger I've been thinking about an arch based distro, but I've always used debian or a debian based system. Arch been a better experience for you?

@ben yes, for somebody who always needs up-to-date software and drivers (to run games for example), Arch is pretty much the best. But I can imagine a developer having an easier time on it as well. Luke Smith did a video on this: (ignore the clickbait title and thumbnail) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bsNIdYw5Ak

@igeljaeger @ben i use arch for work and hobby coding on a daily basis. i occasionally have to pin packages on specific versions for some projects, but pacman handles that quite well. i typically use manjaro for work and a manual arch install on my personal machines.

@igeljaeger @replikvlt if you really want to go with stable you should at least add the other releases as alternative sources

@orekix @replikvlt @igeljaeger I've upgraded to testing now. Stable for a desktop wasn't worth it for me (it had Plasma 5.9 or something, testing is 5.14).I'd get worried about running sid tho

@djabadu @replikvlt @igeljaeger we have the same setup lol, and yeah sid is akin to running arch with testing repos or fedora rawhide, not for the faint of heart
