Yeah, when it should be using Solarized Light, smh.But seriously, I think one of the ways people chose to distinguish graphical terminals from text terminals in the 80s was to have an inverse color scheme. Like, greenscreen feels like the console operator past, and white on black feels like the desktop publishing future.I do prefer my screen light though, I find it restful with a light background, but on a dark background the characters burn my eyes.

@clacke I don't really mind light/dark but have specifically chosen a low contrast theme, zenburn. It is also mostly red/orange not blue taking inspiration from military plane cockpits. Your eyes are not so affected by red/orange and I've been a lot happier since switching from solarized even if it doesn't look quite so fun.
