@lynnesbian this hurts but I can't fight it. I'll say the classic 2D games stand up but even then there's major flaws, I mean we've talked about chemical plant zone more than once, basically everything outside of greenhill zone in sonic 1 is pretty shit tbh, snic 3 and knuckles was 1 game they sold in 2 halves but it's actually solid gameplay wise tbh

i bought sonic mania recently because i've heard so many good things about it and i played a bitit's... better than the genesis games, slightly. but it's still a sonic game. they thankfully cut out the shitty puzzle sections and underwater bits (okay there was one underwater bit but it was short) that dragged down the genesis games so much, but for some reason they decided to implement the godawful special stagesi stopped playing at flying battery zone because that was clearly where they gave up on the "making a platformer game about going as fast as possible is a good idea" thing and just decided to make it a dull, mediocre platformerthe mean bean machine bit was good though. i liked that. and the aesthetics and music and presentation all kicked ass. but the gameplay itself... bleh

@lynnesbian I feel you on this. The Mean Bean Machine minigame was... pretty rad, and a nice surprise, and made me realise how much I goddamn love Puyo Puyo. But wow. just... wow.I mean it's a great sonic game, but... it's also a huge wakeup call that ... even the original Sonic games are... not... great.

@Nine @lynnesbian you think that's bad, in Sonic Chaos it's literally impossible to get the good ending if you play as Tails because he can't go to the special stages for no real reason. And it just rubs it in your face how much of a failure you are if you finish the game without them all by just saying "TRY AGAIN" with Eggman juggling the ones you didn't get
