I got a visa Giftcard. I dislike giftcards in general, and visa gift cards specifically, so I want to do something worthwhile with it. My plan at the moment is to spend about $50 on games from itch.io. What are your favorite games on itch? Your favorite developers?

@acidburn A visa giftcard costs $4, and comes with high transaction fees to the merchant. Visa gets a fee when you buy the card (and a portion of the purchase price if you buy with a card) and visa gets a fee when you use the card Companies make money on gift cards by people not using them/losing/forgetting them. They are a symptom of the worst of capitalism, and should die. Everything that is bad about visa is worse about visa gift cards.

@acidburn Cash doesn't cost additional money and carries no transaction fees. I'd rather see a $20 than a gift card, independent of the amount.

@ajroach42 In some cases cash costs a few $$ to withdraw from an ATM or teller. Also, taxes too. then again, USD is garbage currency from the get-go.

@acidburn ATM fees are easy enough to avoid. Easier to avoid than credit card processing fees, and less harmful to small businesses. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make about taxes, or at least I'm not sure how that applies to sticking $20 in a christmas card.

@ajroach42 Every time you spend USD, it's taxed in some way, and most of the time, that tax responsibility falls on the buyer.IDK honestly this conversation started 24 hours ago and IDK what to sayI don't think we are on the same page, but I don't think we are against each other here either though. I hate visa. I was just curious about why you hated the gift cards.
