Welp, I just ordered the parts to upgrade to Ryzen from my FX-8350. I got a really good deal on a Ryzen 7 1700X ($65) but I only got 16 GB of RAM because 32 GB would have been more than my CPU, mobo, and cooler combined. I'll just have to make do with 16 GB until RAM prices aren't fucked. Still, I'm excited! I can't wait to set it all up! Which OS should I install? I was considering Debian, Elementary OS, Solus, or Deepin.

@sjw It has been a few years but I recall some of the pretty decorations in elementaryOS being at odds with Steam libraries. Did not have the same problems on Solus, though that did (and might still) require that you learn eopkg. Still, Solus would be my pick of the group.

@fashywhitefem I'm currently running Solus. My biggest gripe is the absence of Cron and their response about it is something along the lines of "You don't need Cron because Solus uses systemd. Just use systemd." That's fucking bullshit IMO.Also, I haven't been able to install my copy of Witcher 3 on Lutris. It installs fine but throws an error at the end of the install. I can click launch now and play the game but Lutris thinks it didn't install and deletes it when I close the error

@tuxcrafting Fuck you. TempleOS is the peak of OS design and you know it. That OS was designed by god himself and allows you to talk to god.All other operating systems are bloat. Network stack? Fucking bloat when you can talk to god.

@sjw @ivesen Lunar IPS is a popular tool for applying IPS patches to roms (e.g. to create rom hacks) and Lunar Magic is a popular tool in the ROM hacking scene as well for modifying Super Mario World

@ivesen I've never had a problem with Debian or Ubuntu. If it breaks it always because of something I did and I'm able to fix it.

@ivesen Weird. Ubuntu is my distro of choice when I just want to set something up and interact with it at little as possible. It can do security updates on its own and even kernel updates on its own with zero downtime.I've never had Ubuntu break because I left it alone. For me, it only breaks because I was fucking with it.
