Hahaha fuck, we just got done watching The Death Of StalinAbsolutely brilliant. For anyone who doesn't know, it was written by Armando Iannuci (who also wrote The Thick of It, and co-wrote the various Alan Partridge series with Steve Coogan)This was a fantastic production, dry and witty with his telltale brand of character-led mayhem. Loads of amazing British AND American comic actors were in it, from Michael Palin to the bloke who played the incompetent head of the family, George Bluth Sr, in Arrested Development. It managed to be very unpredictable despite being based on clear historical events, and to have a lot of darkly poignant moments. It also made me much more sympathetic to Kruschev as a figure, as well as to Zhukov and the Red Army. (Though this is partially because Steve Buscemi and Jason Isaacs playing those roles so skillfully and endearingly.)Reminder that there are people on fedi who actually defend Stalinism LMAO 🤣
