before i had Surface Pro http://xahlee.info/kbd/surface_pro.html , i never cared about Windows 10. I thought its UI is annoying. All those silly space hogging tiles. Now i see the point, i enjoy Win10. Touch screen is the point.

one advantage of Win10 is that it's 1 OS for phone/tablet and desktop. you as a nerd want the desktop UI. Phone OS (iOS, Android) are riddled with things you can't control and phoning home behind your back. Desktop OS, e.g. Win10, you can still control almost 100%.

@xahlee Windows 10 is definitely also full of phoning-home functionality, much of which disregards your settings and talks to MS despite your wishes. Trying to "control" Windows 10 is fighting something that is actively hostile to you.

like a proper paranoid nerd, i turned off all phoning home stuff in Windows 10. (no cortana, no account, no nothing)now, u as linux geek, might cry that Microsoft still covertly do things.lol, u been brainwashed. Today, if u use a phone (iOS/Android), it's 10 times worse.

@xahlee okay, but despite whatever efforts you make to curtail spying, you still have hostile software on your computer that will do its best to spy on you, and if it receives an OS update it will likely revert your changes. for example, w10 will straight up *ignore* the hosts file to talk to MS telemetry servers anyway. I know that iOS and Google Android are just as bad or worse. (LineageOS with no Google is a bit better.)

@xahlee But that's why I don't use Windows, iOS, or Android. I don't want to use software that is my enemy and is designed to spy on me.

@amk in my opinion, all things considered, Apple, Google, is a magnitude worse.if you use a smart phone at all, it's 10 times worse, period. Or, if you only use desktop, but have browser with js on, use google maps, use gmail, or even use brew in MacOS, etc etc, it's worse than using Win10 with stuff u can turn off regardless what it actually do.
