did drag discourse happen? are you a fool who thinks starting drag discourse is a good idea? heres some good ideas for you1) dont compare drag to blackface! ever! dont fucking do it! its problematic on 69 if not 420 or more levels! just no! no no no!2) plenty of people have legitimate reasons to be uncomfortable with drag and maybe dont take it as a personal offense to everyone you know or ever have known who at least ever thought about maybe doing drag once if someone stumbles through those feelings and says something really problematic and fucked up like "drag is basically blackface"no this is not a subtoot no ma'am

and to My Own here, look, not all of us discovered our sexuality and gender identity in AOL, IRC, and Discord chatrooms. please be considerate of our sisters who find themselves in ways that are alien to us.PLEASE consider that maybe most of the reasons drag makes you uncomfortable are cishets being shitty about it and using it as a club to beat you with because its what cishet (white) shitheads always do, beat minority groups with other minority groups to deflect blame for themselves. at least consider if your attitude about drag has been tainted by this.

@anna for the record I was very specifically referring to cis men doing drag -- I didn't say this outright in the first toot because i ASSUMED everyone would obviously know that's what I meant. a black person cannot perform blackface for obvious reasons -- they're just performing "face". trans women performing drag, even if they are pre-everything, are women -- they are not crossdressing, they are simply... dressing. I know it is more complicated than that but *obviously* I was only referring to the cis male majority of drag performances.

@killeveryhetero it's a... really extremely problematic comparison in all contexts though. blackface uses cultural dominance and edifies the status quo in order to profit off of further marginalization of black people, and while plenty of criticisms of drag can and should be made its extremely not that. its also often one of the only spaces available to many members of racial minority groups have access to to explore their own sexuality and gender identity, which makes comparison to white people profiting off of their exploitation of black people even more... let's go with "messed up"

@anna look... taken at the simplest level -- blackface is whites, pretending to be black, overexaggerating stereotypical (racist) features, played for laughs, on stage. most drag, IME, is men, pretending to be women, overexaggerating stereotypical (sexist) features, played for laughs, on stage. I honestly feel like this should be offensive to all women and *especially* trans women since THIS becomes the image of what a trans woman is in the minds of millions. I 100% realize that a lot of trans folks that were perhaps seen as gay men, especially in older years, used drag as their only means of expressing themselves and that is a *beautiful* reclamation of what I view as an otherwise incredibly ugly practice. But it doesn't change my overall position.
