@Technowix I think thats silly. Its up to the individual to decide and people who act too emotionally maybe deserve the regrets later so they can maybe learn from acting like children. In the case that it actually is children, same logic still applies. Learn from your emotion driven actions and stop and think.

@Technowix A lock account option maybe, not a delete delay. Rather someone have to make a new account all over again if the regret deleting so they can think about their actions more.

@TechnowixI don't like that. If I tell a service to cancel my account, I expect it to be instantly gone.I think some sort of confirmation dialogue would be good if there isn't one already though. Like, 'are you sure you want to delete this account? All data associated with it will br permanently lost' would be good.

@Technowix I in no means meant we should laugh at people. If you think it could truly help people then sure, maybe its a good idea.

@TechnowixLike, someone talks about hurting themselves, deletes their acc, has second thoughts and comes back to Masto for comfort? That doesn't sound so bad I suppose. I dunno, I guess it just sounds too much like a 'dark pattern' to me. Amazon, Facebook, etc. employ similar strategies that make it hard to leave those platforms even if someone really wants to. IIRC Facebook doesn't even really delete accounts, only deactivates.

@Technowix I think it’s a great idea, especially considering the case where people are deleting because they are having a Bad Time and making decisions they might not have made in an improved emotional state. To those arguing that people should just deal with regretting deleting their account, please consider exercising some empathy. When you struggle with mental health issues especially, it’s really really unproductive to be punished for it.

@Technowix It's fairly common. It always annoys me, if I'm trying to delete it, I want it gone. But, as long as the delay isn't too long and I don't have to do anything else. But maybe a hide account/ lock account redirect for people that want something to happen now, while waiting for the delete thing to happen.

@Technowix @usdcollector i deleted my account in a messenger that was my only way to communicate with anyone who cared about me several times. and if it told me to wait 20 days before it's really gone, i'd... well, it wouldn't be good for me, at all.just like when you can't make yourself send the message, hit 'send' accidentally, and then it just delete it... and then regret that this service has delete option for life (okay, not for so long).

@Technowix @usdcollector and if you've deleted your account and someone has your phone number, they'll text you. unless they know that the account can be restored, it changes the attitude.

@Technowix @usdcollector that's my personal opinion about deleting things because of emotions, and that's certainly different for some other people, so i dunno. but if you're not too emotional atm and you know what you're doing, that "we didn't delete your account even though you asked, we don't think you know what's best for you, think better" would freak me out.

@Technowix I wouldn't mind a feature like that. As long as the account does get deleted after a week or whenever.
