       I think the issue with a lot of programming books is that their topic is "how to learn x programming language" and not "how to learn programming"

       @karen just had a professor talk about this very thing, actually. there really are no good modern imperative languages suitable for a beginner to learn programming. stuff like python exist, but they're all very object oriented, and that's kinda hard to grasp as a beginner

       @karen I think about this a lotthe hard part to learn is what the computer is doing, how to think about things algorithmically, and whatnot, and you won't get that from foxes hollering about Ruby
