Why does nobody understands my website?! It's just a bunch of links to projects with a bit of description for each one.I honestly don't understand why it's so confusing to people.

@neauoireI always saw it as part of the design. You read an album description, it's about something called Neausmetica, so you click through, there's something about Dinaisth, so you click again, celestial puzzle, cool! Who's this Yajnev person, they seem interesting, so you keep clicking and eventually you've learnt nothing substantial, but that's the whole point, you were never meant to understand, only travel and experience

@gaeel haha, okay. So when people say "I am confused by.." they mean, I clicked on random things and ended up in a random place.Maybe I could add a dickbar that says "Have you lost your way?"

@neauoire Honestly, for me, your website is a bit of a black hole to dive into! It's not a website that's for any one thing, like a portfolio or a blog. It's for pretty much everything you do, and you very meticulously log all your work. It's quite a lot, and not a lot of people are used to that, I think. I know I wasn't when I first started perusing!Plus, it's hard to see how I navigate from one section to another, and not knowing how I can jump back makes me feel a little lost.

@gaeel @neauoire i have to agree, the "worldbuilding" (calling your stuff a playground and ecosystem and naming it nataniev) makes it almost playfully esoteric. but if you read a little you will indeed find out what things are... Oscean is a flat-file wiki engine.

@gaeel @neauoire also, the terms arent exactly ambiguous or vague, "exocortex tools" objectively describes nataniev pretty well, but i was like "the hECK is an exocortex" and voila-- playful esotericism

@gaeel @neauoire last thing i want to mention: since a lot of multimedia creators do things across different media, if you dont explicitly describe the medium, "These are DIGITAL tools", it will take a lot longer to understand what a thing is

@hubret @gaeel Thanks for the insights, it helps me to understand how someone might look at this place. I cannot see it with fresh eyes any longer.

@neauoire @gaeel but you know, youve got the clout to just say "im not going to explain it to people trying to check me out, have some mystery instead, enjoy, happy birthday"

@hubret @gaeel haha. Yeah, but I'd still like to make it fun to explore, without it being too confusing.

@neauoire most websites use plain language, so I imagine the terminology throws some off. Also, your main page leads to the journal, the search, the list of recent updates, and the side bar to the about page. But the actual projects have side links that navigate up the tree.So it is also not clear how to get into things or broad categories from the home pageAlso your date system while very cool is, I imagine, not clearly a date system to most people and so the symbology causes confusion

@neauoire @hubret @gaeel The mystery was part of the fun for me, honestly! But balancing fun/mystery while not making it too confusing is a key decision you'll be making when deciding how to display your content, for sure :3

@neauoire I had to draw out the navigational chart on paper one night to figure out how things flowed together. The static site in the github makes it more clearAll this to say you're doing a lot that is extremely unique and that lack of shared context will either cause mystery and excitement (in me and others here) or confusion and perhaps frustration

@neauoire @hubret There's going to be a good balance of esoteric vs clarity somewhereI'm reminded of reading Folktek's and Mannequins' websitesFolktek manages this: http://folktek.com/instruments/modular/matter-iiMannequins tries too hard and it just frustrates me: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/mannequins-three-sistersIn your case, I find your wiki fun to read, but I don't expect to find any useful info most of the time. But I can see how someone who's like "Who's this Devine person?" would just be annoyed

@neauoire Another thought: web layouts are like building layouts. People learn to navigate buildings by first navigating other similar buildings. I know how to navigate a store because I've been to a lot.Yours is a rare and unique construction. This is a good thing but it doesn't lean on that built up mental navigational knowledge

@neauoire @gaeel i think you're missing a purpose. you move around like a nomad, you make digital tools. philosophically why do you move around? for what purpose do you make tools?

@neauoire @hubret So I asked @adriel to take a look, and he pointed out that "Nataniev" is a bit confusing, which throws you off from readingAnother remark is that links aren't clearly links, and the ° symbols are confusing (why do some links have them and others not?)Nothing unsurmountable, but it's a little steep for a first read

@neauoire @gaeel @adriel this is also on Vi's Purity, i dont personally see it as a big deal if the signifier telling you its a link is obvious enough. its just an insignificant detail.

@neauoire For me, because the names of everything had no meaning for me and I didn't understand their purposes. It was like a less distant Codex Seraphinianus. There was no place to step back and see what it was all for.But that was then. I think a lot of the content has changed, or your projects are more accessible to me.

@neauoire Is it about "getting lost", or "not understanding what it is"?I honestly love the projects' naming, and enjoyed getting into the rabbit hole :)I think the information architecture there is solid, but maybe people get confused because there's no persistent, hierarchical navigation (and when it pops up in the footer, it's solely based on related nodes).

@neauoire the desamber dating on the homepage does not mean a lot to new people who may never learn that system. To me nothing is confusing on the website haha
