Received my personal data center 🤗This would make a great #pubnix wouldn’t it?

@acidburn a pi 3 wearing a cluster hat with 4 pi zeroes on top, bought mine here https://www.kubii.fr/cartes-extension-cameras-raspberry-pi/2112-kit-cluster-hat-4-pi-zero-kubii-3272496009943.html

@julienxx you think I could cluster 2 clusters together? :D

@julienxx How're you using it? Pi3 as head-node and k8s to distribute containers? Wireless backplane?

@drwho I don’t know yet, k8s or docker swarm look like reasonable options or perhaps just stand alone servers

@julienxxWhat is the benefit of doing this vs just using a more powerful multi core arm board? Besides the cool factor 😃.

@julienxx Now I know what I want for Christmas! What is the hat (or something or other I dunno) that's connecting all that? I'd love to set up a micro multi-server in my apartment.

@jg you’re welcome, the hardest part is finding where to buy 4 pi zeroes

@julienxx haha. I'm fortunate enough to have hoarded half a dozen for other projects. I'll try to spare a few of them for this cluster.

@julienxx NICE HAT! Are you setting it up for #pubnix? Very neat and compact compared to what I put together awhile back. I did it the old way a couple years ago with 4x Raspberry Pi 2 + 5v ethernet switch + 5v wifi router + 4 port 12v USB charger. Was running it on 12V sealed lead acid batteries for awhile. I learned a lot about hadoop clusters (and fabricating ghetto project cases! Parts from Goodwill!) Here's a pic from an early configuration.#RaspberryPi,#Cluster,#GhettoEngineering

@julienxx @drwho overall i've been quite impressed with my rpi servers, but i'd be interested to see what the overhead looks like for a k8s swarm on rpi. ime pleroma + postgres will take up about half of your memory by themselves.Screenshot_2018-12-18_07-51-41.…

@xj9 @julienxx @drwho If you're using the emmc then turn off logging or only do minimal logging. Another option would be to log to ramdisk. That will improve performance and longevity of the flash.

@xj9 @julienxx Don't know? What are you using to distribute the jobs, Docker Swarm?I really don't know about this, my knowledge of Docker and k8s is minimal, so this is a learning thing.

@drwho @julienxx i don’t have any cluster manager atm. old school unix server hours. i’m developing a distributed service manager that i intend to deploy on my pi cluster, but it’s a ways out from where i am now. http://heropunch.io/Grid
