i'm gonna be pissed if any of my relatives do that shit where they give their dna to some company to get their ancestry info or whatever, which the company is clearly doing purely out of the good of their own hearts

@pea i mean it's probably not only insurance that's going to be affected, stuff like work, dating, etc will probably use that metadata too

@pea Probably isn't, but while I can't speak for the US, it sure as hell doesn't matter in the UK, where you're not actually obliged to give your *real* answer to the question "Why was I turned down for this position?"

@pea (And, living in a relatively conservative area, with epilepsy (primary trigger: Digital screens), I highly suspect the two biggest offenders are "Public Leftie" and "H&S says we can't risk him using our tills because of the once in three months (average) Epilepsy Mambo he does" 😬 )

@pea isn't that sort of a thing with social media right now? I haven't personally experience it but I feel like someone not on twitter/fb/whatever has lesser chances to get hired than say someone who does have those

@pea their costs are going down since the tech is getting better, i doubt them selling your information has much to do with that, they probably did that from the start

@besserwisser i agree they did it from the start, but the data was more the point than the income from actually selling the tests I'd argue

@pea the cheaper it gets, the larger the percentage of their earnings from data selling gets
