A lot of people praise MX Linux for various reasons, but no one has ever mentioned the fact that it doesn't use Systemd by default. That's a huge deal, so why is no one talking about it?

@hundAs somebody coming later in the linux world, I just find the whole debate confusing. Although I have to say I don't fully understand what systemd or init does so I can't really form an opinion in a way or another. But when I say confusing, I mean the cookie cutter aproach "It's not the unix way" etc. That doesn't sound like an argument to me.

@tzycce Linux is what it is today because of it what used to be and hopefully it will continue to be that way as well.Systemd makes Linux look like some cheap version of Linux made by Microsoft.

@hund How is it? I know that almost all distro switched to systemd because sysvinit wasn't good.

@danyspin97 It's not perfect, but at least it's not broken by design. :)

@danyspin97 I would recommend Devuan. It's made by developers and from Debian and some community members and it's a straight up fork of Debian with OpenRC and they sync everything from upstream with only necessary changes.Debian lost a lot of developers and users when they switched to Systemd over a night.. So much for a "stable" philosophy.

@hund I don't really like OpenRC, I tried it in Gentoo and it doesn't suite my tastes. I haven't tried runit yet.For now I am sticking to 66 as init/rc, which is so great.

@hund @danyspin97 According to MX's own wiki page. sysvinit is no longer activity developed. Wouldn't using an improved/active one (like OpenRC) be better?

@joel @hund I agree. But I would suggest runit/66 instead of OpenRC.

@joel @danyspin97 I like OpenRC. :) Both Gentoo and Devuan uses it and as a pre-systemd-era Linux-user I've always felt at home with it. :)

@hund It's not bad and it works, so I have nothing bad to say.I just didn't like the complexity that runlevel add, the service format and the absence of user services.

@hund @danyspin97 MX Linux seems fine, but the problem I see with systemd-less distros is that being too big of a feature, and presenting that as the biggest benefit for a "lightweight" OS.I got to give credit to Void and Alpine for putting a far greater focus on general simplicity for the whole system, not just the init system.However this is just my perception.
