So I'm using this MusicBrainz Picard business to organize my music library. It does a good job of tagging most everything, but this is what happens when you hit the "save" button:- it locks up for a long time and uses an entire CPU core if you let it- if you have it set to "move files", which is the default, it will give you back control, but the job is not done! It is moving your files in the background! The program does not tell you this, you have to look at the file explorer and task manager to see this. You never see a progress bar.

@BestGirlGrace if it's named picard, the least it could do is let you know when it Makes It So.

@MorningSong Right? This program is more devil-may-care space captain than I'd like. It gets the job done, but it doesn't make it easy.

I think the person who made this doesn't know that you're supposed to put stuff like reading files and doing network lookups not on the UI thread, because it sure doesn't respond to clicks when it's reading from the disk

and, again, it's hard to tell if it did what it's supposed to because when you hit "save", it just locks up for a while and then gives you back control

My music collection is a fuck anyways because very little of it is, like, albums I purchased and most of it is individual songs I downloaded as a kid. Some of them are from the network drive in elementary school that just had a bunch of pirated music and games on there.

"ah, memories", I say, nodding sagely at Zoot Suit Riot.mp3, which I have had for ten years now

okay, so it DOES do progress, in the form of showing which ones are and aren't saved and how many it has left in a little counter in the lower right, but only after it does that thing where it uses as much cpu as possible for a while. What the hell
