@lev2013 It is, indeed. @z is an IRL friend of mine, but was not an admin. (We have very different ideas on moderation policy; he spent some time trying to convince me not to do what I am still doing.)At the time, I was expecting folk to be a different guy than he was. Once I started to understand where he was going with it, he got much more entertaining.

I was largely proved right.One thing I was worried would happen is the fediverse would assume you are a crypto-fascist, but thankfully most people now get that @p is just impractically principled in his particular beliefs.

@judgedread @wizard @z @lev2013 I think that's a discovery problem. Like, plenty of people not super into those things, but it can be difficult to find people. Because there's no algorithm designed to maximize engagement, everything's more flat.I've got a few thoughts on the discoverability issue, but nothing firm.

@p Gab has been rekt by discoverability issues.Categories were abolished because they were flooded with spam, but that solved nothing because it made it impossibe for noobs to find any conversation at all.Off topic spam and plain old attention seeking (Politics is the busiest category? That's where I will post about scrapbooking and preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!) are chronic on lightly moderated sites.

The bot army you mentioned is, I think, 90% of the people following me, because the only posts I had put up were "Now that I'm here, it looks like this is just right-wing Twitter, how is their free speech guarantee worth any more than Twitter's?"Now that I think of the bots, if the bot army allegations are true (I have no reason to doubt you and @PussySlayer, and it lines up with what I saw, so I suspect it's true) then it's even worse, because the bots were all named things like "trump1488" and shit like that.
