@thegibson I probably found this from someone on Masto, but if I absolutely have to use YT for the content, you can pass it through invidio.usSo:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPSbNdBmWKEbecomes:https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=IPSbNdBmWKEAll of the info, none of the spying. Allegedly.

@spelkAlso there's hooktube, which is essentially a YouTube proxy. Just replace the "YouTube" part of the domain with "hooktube" like https://www.hooktube.com/watch?v=IPSbNdBmWKE@TheGibson

@skypageHooktube decided against proxying YouTube anymore, they show just an iframe by now. invidio.us might be an alternative@spelk @TheGibson

@waweic @skypage @spelk @TheGibson Android has the Newline app which does something similar. You used to be able to put YouTube links into VLC I think as well and it would play them. Not sure if it does or if I am crazy and thinking of something else entirely.

@waweicThat would be a shame. I know hooktube makes it so you don't need to log in to watch age restricted videos, so I don't know if that would be possible with an iframe or not@spelk @TheGibson

@waweic @skypage @spelk @TheGibson If you are feeling really motivated you can scrape the videos from YouTube using the python script.https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl

@jeffI've been keeping an eye out for a replacement for the video downloader addon I used to use before it went defunct. Sounds like that will do nicely 😁@waweic @spelk @TheGibson
