Found this in the door when I got home. If everything goes offline tomorrow, please avenge me. :awesome: I really should have organised a warrant canary at some point.

@mike Just make a statement about how you've never had a warrant served on the data, include the date and a headline from today, and post it with the PGP signature here. And the public key too, I guess. :-)

Interesting thing that occurred to me - the card is addressed to "Mike" not "Michael" so my info is coming from some online source ("Mike" is all I ever put into forms) and not offline (all my licenses, banking, etc is my full legal name).Doesn't mean much, but it's interesting.

@cefiar I believe my doubt over that was why I didn't do it when I first put Chinwag online in about 2015, I never went right down the rabbit hole enough to get a good answer.

@joshsharp tbqh leaving a card in the door with "please call" is the least scary way this could happen. If it was really serious they'd be waiting for me to get home.

@anish yeah it can be rough. this isn't my first time, though, and I'm comfortably aware that I'm a middle-aged white dude who hasn't done anything wrong.A lot has changed, legally speaking, around me recently though and I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to learn things very fast in the next couple of days. πŸ˜€

@bikecurious my first job tomorrow is calling their main switchboard number and making sure this isn't a hilarious prank. The fact that it's just some dude's business card and it's left at the door makes me think this really isn't going to be a big deal.

Ok it's pretty dull, the AFP has received a request from an overseas agency (dunno where yet) for information about a chinwag.im jabber account. They just wanted an email address to send the formal request docs to, which I can then take to a lawyer. I'm actually kinda disappointed that they didn't have all my email addresses in a big fat file already with my photo paperclipped to the top.Dude didn't even know who I worked for.

@Naeva yeah. It turned out to be fairly dull and routine, but I have a lingering concern that if this is going to get more frequent I may be doing users a disservice by attempting to run public services like I do.Actually started thinking about my mental list of places that aren't Australia that I could enjoy living in again. 😒

@mike there speaks someone who is happier to be out and about rather than behind a computer.I guess he actually needed to make contact anyway, to confirm details.I am disappointed they didn't research first, but I guess it backs up the theory that you aren't a "person of interest".

@Andrea well they would have started with the domain name - and I'm not quite sure where they linked me with it that didn't just come with a phone number which would have been easiest - although I guess a lot of calls starting with "Hello, this is Agent Rodriguez with the Australian Federal Police" end with "Yeah right, pull the other one".Come to think of it, some unknown numbers did call recently without leaving a voicemail, it's entirely possible he tried calling and I didn't answer.
