what does it mean when an account has way more toots than im able to see in the normal panel view when im not viewing the 'full profile' on the actual instance site? how do i make elle.systems eat ,more of their toots??

@andi @root I always assumed it was counting DMs and follower-restricted posts in the count, but only showing posts you’re allowed to see?

@lewdmood @andi that makes sense for yours, like i can see yours normally and i see more toots in the standard view where i can toot and everything and then less when i open your full profile, but i also have mutuals that are 0-3 toots until i open the full profile and its like 2k

@gasp @andi @lewdmood that actually explains a lot. mainly because i have no idea how to federate. i am pretty sure it has something to do about pacing in your spaceship waiting for the jedi?

@root @gasp @lewdmood I always thought it was because I forgot to pay Eugen $1 to do the whole 1950s telephone operator thing connecting my instance to all the others.

@andi @root @gasp @lewdmood The idea is that when you follow someone or someone follows you, your instance doesn't go and download all their toots and everything about them, because keeping all that information up to date would be Hard, so it just shows you what it knows (usually, just toots that it's seen before, such as ones from your instance). I think that when you click on someone's profile, it should get their last few dozen toots so you can see what they're all about, but that doesn't happen.
