@Ether_Penguin @LimitOfX hook up your phone to your noodles so you can say "noodles" and the cup cooks itself and then DDoS's the pentagon

@LimitOfX @Ether_Penguin last year, we detected a breach in our system. we assure you that your top ramen account is safe, the only information compromised was biometric data including live feeds of your colons. we recommend changing your password and enabling two-factor authentication.

@LimitOfX I wish everyone were so sensible. I've problems as it is even explaining why I refuse to own a #smutfone and don't use windows, skype, gmail, fakebook, etc etc.

@awg yeah, i get that too. people get so weirdly defensive about people not using that stuff, especially if you mention privacy issues. it's stupid.and then after having a stupid conversation where they get defensive and imply i'm a bad person for liking privacy, they wonder why i don't want to talk to them.I wish people weren't so blithely trusting of everything with a bit of silicon in it. But I don't think that wish is coming true anytime soon :blobderpy:

@LimitOfX it's actually crazy. their mindset, I mean--I really believe that.I used to be gentler and try to approach these discussions logically but defensively. I've lost patience tbh: before I even start, I know (as you do) it'll be a waste of time/energy and no minds will be changed. so when folks insinuate that I've maybe "something to hide" now, I gently insinuate that they're failing as human beings for giving their trust and subservience to companies who don't have their better interests at heart--trust with data (for example) they wouldn't give to their own family, in some cases. it makes for a slightly more entertaining conversation dynamic, and puts them in the position of having to explain their choices, which is at least interesting to the side of me that observes human behaviour and tries to make sense of it all.

@awg @LimitOfX and of course, having something to hide isn't a bad thing. after all, from who are you hiding? I need privacy because nazis want to kill me. I certainly don't trust them

@DJWalnut @LimitOfX I'm starting to think it's necessary for white pawn to move first in these discussions because it calls their unthinking behaviour into question. if it makes them mad and they don't want to talk to me after that, that's also a win for me tbh. (but so far, and maybe because I'm usually quite polite, this hasn't actually happened.)as for something to hide: if every thought and feeling that every person thought were transparent to every person they met, I believe that the vast majority would be unable to sustain any human relationships. the very essence of most societies is predicated on having some of your feelings or thoughts hidden at some point in time or another. I think it's worth asking if this black box model that maintains some level of harmony between people who otherwise would be in conflict should be eroded so carelessly; and if so, what kind of benefits do they see for a society that demands complete transparency but is yet incapable of handling a simple difference of opinion at a family dinner?
