How do you transport and protect your laptop? Naked? Sleeve? Full on laptop bag? Other?

@kelbot I toss it in with the rest of my stuff, in a dedicated pocket if there is one, but I adore the patina of wear that my devices slowly gather from being knocked around

@kelbot in a built in pocket inside my convertible briefcase/backpack.I might use a sleeve if I happened to find a fun one for an 11" laptop, but the size is nonstandard enough pod places like redbubble don't make them

I dislike putting bulky cases on my devices and carrying oversized or bulky bags. For a laptop I have used neoprene sleeves and a zippered canvas pouch with an outer pocket. I'm revisiting this because I need something for my recently acquired thinkpad. I'm currently leaning towards a basic sleeve which can then be thrown in whatever bag I need a the time or be carried by itself.

My ideal sleeve would be a leather or waxed canvas (or both), relatively snug and have a very low profile handle to allow easy one handed carrying. I haven't found anything that's exactly what I want. I may try to find an etsy craftsperson that could do a custom sleeve just how I want.

@kelbot i am most certainly not qualified to make what you're describing but I have thought about making a sleeve for my own thinkpad with like silly seahorse fabric or something

@pagrus I normally start off thinking about how I can make what I want myself but this is not something I think I should make myself. Are you good at sewing? I haven't sewn since 7th grade when I made my own sweatshirt :).

@kelbot My Thinkpads have a nice patina actually. My work Macbook scuff and corner wear looks a little worse. My iPhone goes nude. I had a nice leather case from Apple but it turns out I'm a little more active than your average wealth manager and it ruined in under a year.

@kelbot i am decidedly not good at sewing, which is why i am currently enrolled in a beginning sewing class.so someday i might be able to attempt a leather/canvas type sleeve thingy with handles but thta day is very far off

@kelbot work and personal macbook pros are in the incase plastic clamshell things. Personal X220i (super cheap ebay refurb model) just goes in the laptop compartment of my bags as it is.

@MatStace Inexpensive used/refurb thinkpads are so great. More durable than your average laptop too.

@kelbot My current one was £80, so I don't feel too emotionally attached to it, which makes it easy to take to things like EMFCamp. It's such a low spec it doesn't have a webcam too, which is nice :-)(disclaimer: I'm ignoring the SSD/RAM/extended battery which I moved over from my previous X220 in the mental accounting ;-) )

@kelbot The hardest part will be removing all of the patches from my current backpack and sewing them all on the new bag. My backpack is getting very worn so the time is nigh.
