Let's talk about computers? What's your daily setup look like? How do you get work done? What software can't you live without? What hardware gets you through the day? What do you want, but have been unable to find?

@MasterControlProgram I'm too sleepy right now, so I'll only say this: I miss having a mechanical keyboard. It's not an essential piece but I miss it. Is this... TECHNOLUST?

@ella_kane @MasterControlProgram When it comes to using the web, I can't live without the Stylus add-on for Firefox (and others). I have light sensitivity issues and a universal dark theme is a must.I made my switch from Windows to Linux right about the time I started having issues with bright screens. One of the reasons I don't think I could go back is that I have far better theme capability than I had under Windows. Everything is nice and dark.My software choices are very much driven by what has a dark UI. For instance I'd love to play around more with GNU Radio Companion, but it has a white background. As for hardware, I need an oversized mouse, Logitech makes a nice one, the "Performance MX." Otherwise I just try to pinch it with my thumb and pinky finger and end up hurting my hand.I love dual monitors on my primary setup. Adjustable to avoid glare from the windows in the room. In my case this meant a fancy stand for them, as the stock stands wouldn't tilt quite far enough.

@SetecAstronomy @ella_kane @MasterControlProgram I don't recall what it was but when I used windows I had some small 3rd party freeware that did inverse colors. I use `xcalib -i -a` for that under linux. Every device of mine that isn't eink /has to/ have very dimmable backlights and a color inversion mode, as theming is never enough.

@MasterControlProgram I want my daily driver to be eink so bad. :( eyes hate glow, and i have a bad habit of *fidget* micro-scrolling on touhscreens.Laptop: Lenovo LaVie Z - strong battery life and insanely light weight. Do Not lose the AC jack, the replacement ones are three times as heavy. Used to run Qubes, on Ubuntu Mate now.File xfer: USB thumbdrive with both standard and microusb ends. Can use with phones or laptops. That has come in handy.

@feonixrift @ella_kane @MasterControlProgram I've managed to get most things I use nice and dark. PDFs are the only thing I have to invert at the moment. I didn't realize I could get X to invert things, I'll have to look into that for apps like PCB layout or GNU Radio Companion.

(I had a blogpost on this but my site is defekt atm)Experimenting with using my kindle more though.Off-tech, Lamy fountain pens with fine nibs and various notebooks depending on level of frustration.Phone: Random android, underconfigured. I haven't minded it much.

@MasterControlProgram I kinda really want a projection keyboard or some other totally silent design... I type fast in bursts and on a standard laptop it can sound like a thunderstorm, which makes me feel really bad about working late at night.

@MasterControlProgram My dream device would be a clamshell dual-touchscreen version of a Remarkable eink pad, able to use one side as a keyboard or both as touchscreens, as a daily driver linux box. Alas, these seem not to exist atm.Oh, also very used: Pebble watch. I can step away from the phone and know I'm not missing anything important like a kindergarten disaster, have a minutes countdown to where I need to be next, etc. That's a huge boost for me.

@MasterControlProgram The group that took over the server side is doing a fantastic job; there really isn't any noticeable functionality loss. And pebbles work well with gadgetbridge if you don't care for 3rd party servers anyway.

@feonixrift I didn't know someone took over the serverside. I haven't really explored the devices, I just assumed I wouldn't be able to use them. Now I gotta do some research.

@MasterControlProgram So often already I'm on a phone or ipad... I'm not sure if I'd mind. On the other hand, I tried my kid's thinkpad X40 and... Wow keyboards used to be so good...

@SetecAstronomy @feonixrift @MasterControlProgram I'm not a fan of dark mode. It took me a lot of time to get used to Mastodon's colors (as they don't do Light mode in the best way, either).I thank the LOLcats that we have a kind of night mode, that is different (in my mind, at least) from dark mode. Night mode is the dimming of lights + blue filter, etc that is actually very customizable now in Windows.
