In short, skepticism that rejects ideas without basis is just stupidity; better to have an open posture toward ideas when the cost of being “wrong” is low. For instance, I personally am a Christian, and live as one, and I consider the cost of being mistaken to be very low, since if the atheist is correct, then upon my death I won’t be around to be disappointed in the outcome, but if I’m not mistaken then the benefit is very great.

@monerica I'm an atheist. It all depends on how your beliefs impact your life and those of others imho. Currently reading #KindlyInquisitors and loving how it frames our "understanding" in a social context.

@Viking I’m aware of Pascal’s wager. I also know it doesn’t serve as an argument for the truth of Christianity but it does frame, in another sense, a choice between alternatives that present different costs or sets of consequences. As for me, I am not oppressed by fear of hell because within Christianity the sinner is easily and freely forgiven through penal substitution. I would resent, not embrace, a religious belief that had oppression by fear as part of the experience for its followers.

@monericaI'm skeptical about this view of skepticism 😁
