@lynnesbian tbqh i think if you’re posting it online you should be assuming that someone is making a database of it which will be searchable...

@LeDiva public and unlisted, not DMs or followers only. also, my code doesn't download CW'd toots, but 6ou can easily modify it to do so

@cesese@lynnesbianI mean the database only has things posted on public settings I'm pretty sure, but instance admins have a little more reach, as they have everything public and dm to/from their server.

@lynnesbian From ethical grounds, my gut says you’re good as long as (a) the OP’s profile isn’t set to block search engine indexing; OR (b) you’re browsing manually, and not doing further searching or processing.Basically I’m just thinking about the scope that people expect their posts to be seen in.

@cesese @lynnesbian if you post it publicly, it's not private

@Robby @lynnesbian if you go in public you still keep the right to privacy. For instance if you take a picture of me, I have the right to ask you to delete it, if you don't comply I can sue you. That might be different between countries, in mine that's how it works

@Robby @lynnesbian same for data, if you keep data on me, I can ask you to kindly comply and delete it, or I can sue you. Online data.

@Robby @lynnesbian (I'm saying sue but I should be saying... forcing you thanks to laws in my country?)

@cesese @lynnesbian in the USA, that is false. If you are in public you are not considered to have a right to privacy, and if someone takes a photo of you, that is totally legal and the photo belongs to the photographer. I'm not aware of any limitations on collection of public data either.
