Dear internet, today I built a tiny radio station that transmits "shave and a haircut" repeatedly on 95.5 FM.No, YOU'RE avoiding your responsibilities!#NumbersStations

@mike Remember to put a filter on it if you intend to run it for any extended period of time! (I don't really care about the commercial bands, but harmonics and subharmonics might overlap with our precious amateur bands, resulting in steamed hams)

@Curator here's an off-air recording! The timing is slightly offset in one channel to reassure me that stereo is working properly.https://drive.chinwag.org/s/sjaFgWMqkgrrtqsIt's amazingly irritating to listen to for an extended period of time. I love it like a child.

@tomas @mike in the old days in UK you had to be careful about the Fire Brigade, Ambulance and railways (where the VHF harmonics/subharmonics did end up) but they are now all on UHF Low/Tetra just above the military aircrafts I think there is only +8dBm output max from that chip, which although is a bit more than your CE approved TX (for use inside cars etc) shouldn't upset too many people (provided you are careful..)https://www.voti.nl/docs/VMR6512.pdf

@vfrmedia @tomas yeah this isn't going to be on very often at all, it's really just an excuse to make a practical thing that actually does something. Next thing is to add an LCD screen to show current frequency, and some tuning functions from a keypad. Then it'll probably go back in the drawer for (another) 5 years. :awesome:

@mike Did you know you could do it with a Raspberry Pi and a little piece of wire ? (:

@krhonos yeah! I've seen posts about that and it's awesome!I'm going to work an old Pi into this as an audio source eventually, but the goal here is more about playing with controlling other devices than actually broadcasting anything for any reason.I have had this transmitter in my junk drawer for five years now, and this is the first time it's even come out of the anti-static bag.
