Do any KDE Plasma users use the Activities feature? I'm wondering if I can use that functionality to make it easy to switch to a tablet mode by association scripts and settings changes with a specific activity.

@kelbot I think so... there is quite a lot of hidden features there but so far no one have gone in to make something specific with them (since old KDE 4 days and the web-layout)

@ohyran @MightyPork I don't see any way to trigger a command or script to the switching of an activity. Also, I tried rotating the screen to portrait in the activity but it stays rotated even when switching to another activity. I don't think this is going to do what I want.

@kelbot @ohyran well if you give up on activities this should be all scriptable with something like dbus

@kelbot The Plasma team is currently working on an official tablet made which switches automatically based on information from hardware sensors. So if you try doing this manually, be aware that your solution might become obsolete soon :)@notmart can tell you more about it

@colomar @notmart Oh really?! Having it built into plasma would be wonderful! Is there anywhere I can read about the progress on this?

@kelbot That damn thing and the cashew have been a solution in search of a problem for years. And now they've managed to dick up multiple desktops too.The only way to have distinct wallpapers is to use an addon called 'activity pager' instead of the regular desktop pager.Basically, I use it to duplicate the functionality they ripped away from me for no reason and replaced with... ??? I still don't know tbh.

@gemlog @kelbot I hate KDE for that. And, for the first time in a long time, something non-KDE will be installed on my new machine being assembled as we speak. Or type.

@xmanmonk @kelbot I really can't do without the ease of customization. All my peeps want different things and I don't feel like editing files or microsoft-style property sheets to please them.Heck, even my whining had a gui work-around to please myself. Also, kio slaves are awesome. Even the digital clock is awesome with all the TZ as a tooltip. So much goodness.I just want that one 'activity' dev up against the wall - it's a small thing to ask is it not?

@gemlog @xmanmonk That sounds more like something gnome would do :-P.

@kelbot I use Activities to seitch my layouts and pins between personal, work, and audio production. I haven't played too much with advanced features, but I think there is a way to have an activity run a script. If that doesn't work, there's the tried and true script-bound-to-a-custom-shortcut routine. Could even have an icon be an on/off switch by using a temp file for single-script operation.
