       @thegibson Forgive the meta but I recall some muttering about a patch going into masto to autoblock instances that send > 500c posts. Am I recalling correctly?

       @sungo @thegibsonCan’t really imagine that this is true. This would block basically all Pleroma instances (default limit 5000 characters, easily configurable to be way higher) and other alternative ActivityPub servers.

       @shibayashi @thegibson Yeah, it was based around some rantings by E that masto was a microblogging platform and maybe even 500c was a mistake. He's had these rants before.

       @sungo @thegibsonInteresting. In a federated network such things should be solved by adapting the UI, like the recently merged auto-collapsing of posts that are longer than 500 characters, but not by blocking almost all alternative implementations.
