@elomatreb @lynnesbian There wasn't really public support. That's one of the reason Rudd's party imploded. And to be fair, Australia got marriage equality via an act of parliament; a voted upon law. The United States got marriage equality like most other cases of civil rights, via the Supreme Court.Brown vs The Board of Education was landmark and made the US better, but it should have come through the legislature. The dependences on the SCOTUS for civil liberalities should trouble people.
