No meme, I think folks who want to go with no civ are either just way off base or straight up bad people, like I can see how one could look at the society we have now and just throw their hands up but abandoning civilization ultimately means abandoning everyone else and only caring about yourself and your own needs and that’s just unfathomably selfish to me, I can’t imagine deciding “the system fucks everyone, so my idea of revolution is to just fuck everyone”

This is also why I think communism is bad because from what I’ve read about it it’s just a form of anarchy which reacts to the unjust institutions of the world with “no more civilizations, everyone do what you want” with no consideration for the fact some people... will want to do bad things... mostly to people with no way to defend themselves, especially with no outside help available. 😬

@BigPopsicle >communism is bad You practice communism everyday. Every buy a beer for a friend? Do you charge someone when they ask you to pass the salt? We practice capitalism at work so we can practice communism at home. Governments are not communist. Sociologists/Anthropologists don't apply that word to States. Socialism is when the state provides services: parks, fire, police, transport

@BigPopsicle I say abolish money, and eat the rich, but in truth we need a system of exchange and I'm not a cannibal, haha. I just think we can do better and that free market, laissez faire capitalism simply won't survive with the coming wave of automation. Ultimately any power organization is there to decide just exactly how resources are distributed and used.

@starwall @BigPopsicle All money is a form of debt. We're practically born into the debt of the State today. They provide services that keep us alive an we are resources to be borrowed against and we are raised to believe our value is in our ability to work and pay off that made up debt.

Seize The Means Of Production: YesAbolish Money: YESAbolish Classes: HELL YES!Abolish The State: NO THANKS! Like, the modern idea of statehood definitely needs some serious changing, and there's definitely lots of toxic ideologies and horrible white washed histories associated with how modern statehood is framed, but, um, having some sense of government and greater community is still good??

@starwall honestly I wouldn't hate if we just split the world into a bunch of semi-autonomous communities or at least distinct cultures but which are all part of a wider global state they have fair representation in, leave the massive state to just coordinate common issues including resource redistribution, let local states handle smaller details (infrastructure, etc.)....

@BigPopsicle @starwall I mean the trouble is, it goes all Animal Farm at some point? No matter how clean/peaceful the revolution is, no matter the intentions, the corrupt will rise up in any system and convince everyone else they need a leader to follow them. You need a good election system (like 🇦🇺 ) to ensure diversity (unlike 🇺🇸 ) and equal representation, but you'll always have corruption.

@orekix @BigPopsicle That's fair. But has anyone actually talked about redistributing the wealth of the non-wealthy? I don't want your wealth redistributed, but what about Bezos? I don't see what a single human can do to deserve thousands of dollars per hour! They're just captains of ships full of people who make the things they convince others they need to be happy. Where is the line?

@djsumdog I really don't practice communism every day, nor do I think Communism as an ideology gets exclusive claims to all good will, charity, and general respect for other human beings lolBut yeah, "Governments are not communist", that's sort of my point, I believe in having a government, hence I think Communism is a bad idea. Some form of socialism? On board. Communism? Not so much.

@BigPopsicle 1) a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as neededWho owns the salt in your cupboard? The cereal? It's not good will, but not charging your brother 25 cents to pass the salt is communism (as defined by most sociologists and anthropologists). Communism has never existed at the State level by that definition. It has only existed in small groups.
