Still blows my mind that I run into people who think that market based approaches to healthcare are unquestionably superior despite ample countries proving the contrary. They're usually rich Americans, shocker.

@equal India has a market based system for the most part. Healthcare there fromy personal experience has been excellent and very cheap, up to and including street dentistry.

@mishari Good stuff. Forgive my ignorance, but how accessible is it? Are people with very little money able to get treatment?

@equal check this out, this was basically the only luxury car in India for decades. The same car produced from 1958 to 2014. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindustan_Ambassador

@mishari @equal I have ridden in a *lot* of those. They were every taxi I rode in (not including autorickshaws of course) when I lived in India.I'm not sure how affordable the heathcare is for Indians, but it was ridiculously cheap for me as a tourist. I might go there again just to get Lasik and some dental work.

@bamfic @mishari @equal I hear you. I'm -12 diopters and my glasses are literally thicker than soda bottles.I'd prefer to get it done in India, but Mexico is more likely.

@greenjon @bamfic come to Thailand, the people are really nice and costs are much much lower than US. It's like getting medical care at a Holiday Inn. Happy to refer you to facilities.
