       Cutesy American cartoon war propaganda: "Buy American war bonds today and Slap a Jap*!"*This is a slur, never utter any part of it.Reality: Instead of putting that money towards going to actual military war (or, indeed, anything remotely relatable to "slapping" someone harmlessly), the US just immediately drops the biggest atomic weapons they have and instantly vaporizes thousands of innocent lives, forcing an immediate and unconditional surrender.

       @catgirl First of all, there was absolutely no need to drop the bombs at all. The Japanese government would surrender anyway.Secondly, the damage from the fire bombings was much higher anyway.Thirdly, it was the USA who started the war by instituting an embargo on oil which is absolutely an act of war.

       @dtluna @catgirl uh, you do realize that there were many who wanted to continue fighting even *after* nuclear bombs were used. Going so far as to try and hold a coup. It was only because of loyal imperial household staff that the recording of the emperor's surrender announcement was smuggled out and broadcast. If the emperor and recording had both been seized there likely have been a ground invasion and North & South Japans as happened to Germany.
