       @rgggn older Kobo's have some alternate completely libre firmwares floating around on github. (sans wifi firmware blobs) Their not entirely feature complete, but good enough for simple eReading.

       @trashHeapThis is what I have figured out as well. I picked up a cheap used Kobo Aura to attempt installing the Foss firmware replacement https://github.com/lgeek/okreaderIt is all open source except for the eink driver code.@rgggn

       @rgggn you can run non-kindle software on older kindlesduokan is a thing, also https://fread.ink/and i'm working on making my own setup for my kindle that allows ereader stuff but also opens up the linux system underneath
