Your boss asked you to do something relatively simple, so do it, and then when the moment is right, bring up the longer-term improvement potential.I know a guy who, no matter what you want to implement, no matter how minor, he will shoot it down immediately and insist on his custom solution that is totally better and will only require the entire org to learn "a little bit" of its functionality. The thing is that he's right sometimes, but his approach makes it very difficult for people to want to agree with him.
