       @freepatriot as my old friend used to say whenever this came up, something like "We were waiting to see how this Adolf thing played out, with no intentions of getting involved until Pearl Harbor."I'm sure there's a lot of nuance and caveats and covert missions and the like, but that's just been my understanding.I don't think the activities of the nazis were being blasted everywhere. Meanwhile everyone who paid any attention presumed the US would participate tho' I think this:Because only radio+newspapers linked the west + east coast, each coast tho't their side would go to war.Unfortunately I didn't ask the question while those I knew were still alive.
