Now, I know a lot of you are gonna cry "It's because there's no good content!". Which is fine, you're can have that opinion.You'd just be wrong.There's plenty of good content. There's also a lot of content that's just, average. Made by everyday people with a cell phone, trying to find others who are similarly interested. Those videos may not be high quality, but there is intention and effort being put into them.And do you want to guess what motivates them? Views.P3.

Views.Feedback.Likes.These are the three things that help to motivate people to make better content. But since peoples standards are so high, there's no motivation to do more.So you want better content, but you aren't willing to encourage the people making the content, to make more and to improve?Got it.But, that's not the only problem that I see...P4.

Another reason videos don't get seen more is that people don't share them or at least if they do, a large percentage of those that share, don't actually watch it themselves.I get that they're trying to help, and that's great. The more help the better. I'm not knocking them. I'm just saying that even people who boost the content can't get people to watch.Regardless, the people that do boost, are rare. I see a dozen or more new videos being made every day. You know where I never see them?P.5

Here on Mastodon. I rarely see PeerTube videos being boosted. @FediVideo suggest great videos almost everyday, with hardly 30 boosts. That's with over 8k followers. 30.And all of this for me leads to only one conclusion. That people on the Fedi for the most part, do not care about PeerTube.Maybe I'm wrong. But after having helped moderate a PeerTube instance and just looking at the numbers, it's hard for me to see where my thinking is mislead.P.6

I think people like the idea of PeerTube, and time has shown that they are willing to do so with their hard earned $$$, but when it comes down to it, they don't actually care about the videos themselves. If they did, there would be more views on peoples videos and I'd see them shared more often.PeerTube has some great content on it if you take the time to look.(end of rant)

Oh and none of this has anything to do with my own low view videos. I'm not that self absorbed. This is about everyone. I believe in the Fedi and I believe in PeerTube. I just don't understand why people aren't willing to watch or boost?And of course, if you do watch and boost, thank you. I just wish more people did.

I have an ethical question. I think I know where I stand, but I'm wondering what everyone else thinks?The scenario...You have no money. Thankfully your needs for food, shelter, and clothing are taken care of.One day a friend offers to make you a producer/writer in a treatment for a new series being presented to a major studio.You've not been asked to actually work on it.Do you accept and take the money if it's made?Or...Do you reject the offer because you aren't really involved?

@HuguesRoss I think the problem is the expectation of the viewer.No one expected the videos coming out of YouTube when it first came out to be high polished videos. We had fun watching people make videos on their crappy phones or digital cameras.But now people seem to be jaded by today's YT experience when it comes to PeerTube. It's like they expect banger after banger from a pirate radio station after listening to satellite radio. Of course they are going to be disappointed.

EXACTLY.PeerTube is NOT trying to be YouTube, but people treat it like it is.YT creators will tailor the length and subjects of their videos according to the trends of the algorithm. In other words they fit their content into a YT sized hole.PT creators just make video according to their own whims or because they are earnestly trying to create a dialogue between themselves and the audience. Unsullied by the pull of money.They are not the same.

People who are suggesting that the Colbert show and others who are being pressured out by the current administration, should then start up a PeerTube instance and figure out a way to monetize it, either have no idea how a show like Colbert is funded, or have no idea how PeerTube works and what it’s purpose is.I mean, essentially what you’re suggesting is that a five star Michelin restaurant close their doors and start handing out food on the corner for tips.Really?
