I think a lot of conservatives would be shocked to hear that the historic alternative to abortion was not "let's just raise this brand new baby and care for it even though we ourselves are starving and have no ability or resources with which to do so". The alternative was literally infanticide. Where do they think the trope of finding a baby in the woods came from? It came about because people used to literally FIND NEWBORN BABIES WHO HAD BEEN LEFT TO DIE IN THE WOODS. Abortion and abortifacients allow us an alternative - trick the body into thinking it's pregnant before it gets pregnant. We live in a gentler time because abortion exists.

Okay I'm a teacher so let me break the math down for you.- The SNAP program costs about $100B a year. - That seems like a lot. - But the federal budget is $6.75T per year. - That's less than 1.5% of the federal budget. - SNAP has 40 million recipients. - That means at maximum, each recipient receives $2,500 a year for food, assuming zero dollars spent on administration costs. - Or, $208 per month for food.- $208/month can stretch pretty far, but- The average grocery cost per month in America is $504.- Or about double the maximum amount ever even hypothetically paid by SNAP.Nobody is getting rich off SNAP benefits. They exist so people who need food don't die.

One of the most devious things I ever added to a DND campaign was a simple brick and mortar archway, ancient, the stones faded and worn smooth with time, standing alone in a dense woods overarching a forest path. There was absolutely nothing magical or dangerous about it. It was simply a remnant of an older structure that used to stand there centuries ago, with only this arch now remaining. But my little intrepid group of adventurers spent so much time, energy, (and spell slots!) trying to decide whether to go through it, or around it, whether to leave it alone or to mess with it in some way. In the end, they finally made camp next to it and spent an entire night watching it in shifts in case the arch did something unusual. In the morning, i sent an NPC, a wandering trader, down the forest path going the opposite direction. My players watched in horror as he approached the Demon Gate (as they had by now named it), whistling a jaunty little tune, walked right through the arch and past their little encampment, tipping his hat to the group, stunned that absolutely nothing nefarious had befallen him for doing so.Sometimes the best trap isn't a trap at all.
