Trying to summarize things I enjoy is really difficult. I love watching / interacting with skillful people doing difficult things excellently. That covers ....Dancing, Martial Arts, Drawing, Acting, Animation, Sport, Music, Art, Craft, Circus acts, LEGO etc I have to know enough about it to be able to recognise the skill to really find it interesting. #introduction

At my #Autism group therapy class last night, we had to share tips on how to take care of our sensory needs and prevent overwhelm. Ppl were talking about the social pressure to attend events when you're already at capacity. When they say they need rest or need a break, they face social condemnation. My advice to the group was to lie! Choose something nebulous and not disprovable and say you have that. Like a headache, or bad PMS! 1/2

And the group leaders gave me the same look my midwife did in antenatal class 20 yrs ago. We had to "act out" how we would cope with increasing labour pains, and I shouted "Drugs! Where are my drugs!?!"I wonder if they regret inviting me to group therapy yet? 🤔. #NeurodivergentLifeHacks 2/2

People who were taken to polling stations as children are more likely to be adults who vote regularly.I can't remember where I read that, but it's worth knowing. Take your kids with you, explain what you're doing and why it's important.

Every now and again I get a reminder of how crucial my coping strategies for #ADHD are. I wear a bite guard at night - every night for ~10 years. I brush my teeth, put in my guard.Every morning, the icky feeling of the bite guard remind me to get up and brush my teeth. That is my reminder to take my meds.Last night I brushed my teeth standing in a different position. From that position, I couldn't see my bite guard case in the bathroom cabinet. So I didn't put in my bite guard. 1/

This morning I woke up, and was already dressed and nomming on some stashed chocolates (no judgement pse) when I finally remembered to brush my teeth. Thank goodness - because that made me open the cabinet which made me see my bite guard, which reminded me to take my meds. Standing 50cm to the right of my usual place last night literally depressed ~10 years of self care conditioning. Which, if I had not woken up too early this morning, I would not have corrected.2/n

In case I have not explicitly said this yet. My vision for an ideal world is one where ALL babies are welcomed with love, happiness and abundance. This means that all pregnancies are supported to continue, or end, with love and compassion for the people affected. This means that income inequality has been massively reduced, removing poverty as a reason to despair at the birth of another mouth to feed.1/n

This means that we all have "enough", and, IF WE CHOOSE TO, we can afford the time and resources to raise awesome humans awesomely. This means no-one is pressured to have children, judged for not having / having too many children, or left to fend for themselves. This means that no babies are left "unwanted", but that adoption systems work smoothly- providing would-be parents with loved and wanted children. 2/n

This means that we genuinely value the full diversity of human beingness. That all babies are valued and seen as worthy of the same welcome, regardless of abilities, potential or social background. This means that "service" roles in society must have been prioritised and properly remunerated. Because a loving welcome is not possible without quality maternal care. (Which implies that one's medical systems are functional and accessible)3/n

This means there is enduring peace worldwide. That no-one welcomes their baby with the fear of a violent future.Unless every person is valued, loved and supported, there will be babies born into situations or families where the love is tempered with fear, or otherwise inaccessible somehow. So ultimately, my vision of a world that guarantees a loving, joyous welcome for ALL babies requires building and maintaining caring, compassionate, connected, sustainable societies. 4/4.

I just downloaded the most beautiful pack of macro #photography #backgrounds from https://ko-fi.com/welshpixie(on mastodon - @welshpixie )They are on their Ko-fi and it is pay what you can. It's a beautiful pack, more than 50 high quality backgrounds. As a comparison, people on Etsy are charging from €5 per 20 not so great backgrounds, to €2 per backgound.
