It is a gorgeous sunny day - and our #eucalyptus tree is thriving. We were a bit concerned with how it would do in the London clay, but with a bit of TLC, a splurge of food, and plenty of water, it is growing up quickly.Huge thanks to https://www.hardy-eucalyptus.com/ for the plant, accessories, and advice.#PlantATree

One year later, and I think it is fair to say our Eucalyptus tree is *thriving*!This time last year I was taller than it. Now it is easily twice my height.Gorgeous smell, beautiful leaves, but sadly hasn't attracted any 🐨This is a "Eucalyptus neglecta" from https://www.hardy-eucalyptus.com/#PlantATree

I know of no greater pleasure than watching bees getting covered in pollen as they rummage around your sunflowers.

🆕 blog! “Reading NFC Passport Chips in Linux”For boring and totally not nefarious reasons, I want to read all the data contained in my passport's NFC chip using Linux. After a long and annoying search, I settled on roeften's pypassport.I can now read all the passport information, including biometrics.👀 Read more: https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2025/06/reading-nfc-passport-chips-in-linux/⸻#CyberSecurity #hacking #linux #nfc #rfid

Of the back of this post, someone has linked me to a Taobao page which claims to have dozens of unsold txtr beagle units (the mythical £10 ereader).I'm trying to see if they actually exist, are in stock, and can ship to the UK.

@JonathanMBR @j2bryson I don't think this is true. The UK government has nothing to do with the Guinness Book of World Record - it is a private company. There's no mention of the announcement on https://gov.uk/The Mara migration was listed by a US newspaper as one of the 7 new wonders of the world.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonders_of_the_World#USA_Today's_New_Seven_WondersGuinness lists it as the largest migration.https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/greatest-land-migrationBut, again, nothing to do with the government.

August 1st - Googler asks the community if XSLT should be removed from the HTML living standard.https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/11523Respondents overwhelmingly reject the suggestion.August 6th - Google starts work on removing XSLT from Chrome.https://issues.chromium.org/issues/435623334#comment4August 14th - Googler sends PR to remove XSLT from the standard.https://github.com/whatwg/html/pull/11563Like, I don't have a particular view of whether this is a good idea or not. But these sham community engagement exercises piss me off.

As a little bonus treat, here's an older discussion about Google removing XSLT from Blink. Most of the arguments (on both sides) remain the same.https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/blink-dev/c/zIg2KC7PyH0The date of that discussion? 2014!
