@Tutanota @volla Hey Tuta. I'm really disappointed as a legendary user because you recommend LineageOS, CalxyOS and /e/OS and now do a collaboration with volla, which allowed attacks from their community on GrapheneOS in their own volla Forum. And the sad part is that you recommend those ROM or make a giveaway and call it "secure" - None of them is secure and even against your mission for privacy. I'm concerned to use Tuta because of your wrong perspectives about security. I will leave Tuta.

@Tutanota Well, it certainly doesn't include the exorbitant price of the device, just because "privacy is paramount." Seriously! Someone there really went totally crazy with those prices! What's so expensive about the phone that it's so jaw-droppingly expensive overall? The Swarovski-encrusted, gold-plated casing? These phones are not so wonderful that they should charge customers such prices for them. Dear creators, come down to earth. Otherwise, a dog with a lame leg won't buy this.🤦♀️🤦♀️@volla

@TutanotaI would say "google-free" but as it's already pretty explicit in this case, I'm going for repairability.See, with Android phones your phone turns into a paperweight as soon as it stops receiving Android updates anyway, but otoh if you have an open source OS which you can expect* to be supported way longer, repairability becomes essential.*for example, linux dropped 486 support some 20 years after the last 486 was manufactured@volla

@Tutanota @volla I guess there are many aspects that are important on degoogled phone. First, the most important is independence from Google Play Services. Android became so dependent from this spyware, that so many apps don't work without it, even manufacturer's apps. That should not happen on a freedom OS (which android is announced as). So in my opinion, truly degoogled phone should also have open-source independent OS. I imagine the real privacy phone as another Linux distribution, with desktop environment made specifically for phones (like plasma mobile for example). This should be similiar to android graphically but differ under the hood, access to root should never be blocked, its the symbol of ownership, that we can remove whatever we want and install whatever works. I appreciate work of foss devs and companies in promoting @fdroidorg and improving transparency of their products on this bloated spyware android OS, but this OS is heading the wrong direction for many years already, and it just keeps getting more and more closed. All the android foss is on a sinking boat, and it has to be said, time to move on, android was a base for many amazing projects, apps, and therefore the new OS should be able to run them all, so be compatible with android packages. Its important to note, that because of amazing devs which are choosing to donate their work into fdroid, this switch will be much easier. Damn its kinda long complain, but summing up, I think the most important is the new OS for truly degoogled phone. Its unreachable to degoogle, while using Google OS, even though projects like GrapheneOS or LineageOS are doing amazing work, Google still makes money on that, and can kill it anytime they want. GrapheneOS just runs on Google phones only and is based on Android. Its like trying to deApple Macbook. So without new OS we will never truly degoogle.

@Tutanota @volla What matters most? That my phone is truly MINE. Not a surveillance terminal disguised as a smart assistant. I want to open an app without wondering 'who else is watching?', search without feeding endless ad profiles, use a device that works FOR me, not ON me. Digital freedom can't be a luxury in 2026 – it's a right. And it starts with truly controlling your own tools.BTW I use Tuta 😉

@Tutanota Most important is trust. Trust in the software you run; trust in the hardware; trust in the manufacturer. To me, @volla betrayed that trust when they promised in their Kickstarter to open-source their OS and apps and then quietly decided not to.If I win the phone, I'll probably gift it away. Because once trust is lost, it's hard to regain it.

@Tutanota @volla Apart from the obvious, avoiding monopoly, people privacy and keeping the internet an open place, I think what's the most important on a de-googled phone is to be able to maintain the level of security we deserve. We shouldn't have to give-up hardware security and regular security update to avoid google services. Google made sure we were dependent enough to make it hard. @Tutanota I don’t like to support big business like Google, that’s the most important feature of a degoogled phone for me.

@Tutanota @volla similar convenience and reliability with regards to access to apps and ease of administration would be key to me.Stepping away from exploitive companies and business models is much easier, when their selling proposition (in this case: convenience and reliability) stops being unique.

@Tutanota @volla Most important: privacy / security / safety.Bonus round: Ability to run the app for my bank so I can deposit checks via my phone while living in pandemic isolation. (I realize this is a somewhat niche concern.)

A way of running a few apps that depend on Google services in a very locked down sandbox so privacy is maintained even if they are trying to do naughty things @Tutanota @volla

@Tutanota @volla Most important is peace of mind with a clutter free phone. Only functions that I want are there, all else does not occupy mental space.

@Tutanota @volla a good camera 😭 actually for a perfect phone I wish to have great hardware integrated f.e. a GPS (Pixel phones don't have this). For current phones I wish to have good onboarding when you use the device for the first time.
