eGPU is additionally nice because the fans are big enough to be quiet, and the laptop itself doesn't get hot

@mntmn small implementation questions:- you're using the built-in FEX translation layer that Steam is also using for the Frames? Or something else?- Picture is fed back over PCIe and composited on screen by the RK3588? Or is there a way to feed back displayport video signals into the screen? (sorry screen small, can't see if there's a video connector)- e GPU plugged into the NVMe slot?

@dryak 1. still box64, so steam itself is also emulated. but it's quite similar to FEX 2. yeah, i think amdgpu renders into a texture (surface/window) over PCIe that is composited by the rk3588's mali gpu 3. yeah via oculink

@mntmn@mastodon.social if only it had USB4 w PCIe support/Thunderbolt (I know it's probably near to impossible to get ARM chips that support it but one can dream)

@mntmn this sent me down a path of thinking about similar of eGPU with the Pocket. I suspect not possible, although I wondered about using the M.2 slot on the new headset/M2 board, but that's not long enough for the Oculink/M.2 adapters I've seen... oh well 🙂 very cool to see what you've had working!

@andypiper i totally want this on pocket. i think i'll do a pocket mb v2 next year with the gen3 x4 controller exposed (currently not used in pocket for imx8mp historical reasons). big questions about mb spatial architecture. perhaps 2x smaller m.2 slots instead of 2280...

@darzee_dk @josch kernel from here https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/145then, apt install box64 and then run the included steam install script
